Scavenger's aims:

1. To create a live inventory of all the surplus, unwanted or un-used, items that exist within homes and businesses.

2. To promote the reuse of things.

3. To reduce the quantity of things that are being thrown away and taken to landfill sites.

4. To create links between people and businesses to enable them to easily give away their unwanted things to others who do want them.

Why get involved:

The benifits of getting involved are huge. If you've got something that you need to get rid of, then most likely someone else will want it and will come and collect it from you! Therefore you won't need to spend your time and effort driving to the tip or local charity centre.

If you're on the look out for something then you might well find it within the inventory. You will have to put the effort in to arrange to collect it but since your're getting it for free there's no room for complaining!


Who can get involved?

We want everyone to get involved. Whether your a small or big business or just an ordinary individual we would like you to take part.

How the feedback system creates a self moderating network

Through being a proactive and reliable member you will be awarded positve feedback and scores from your fellow members - indicating to others that you are a trust worthy Scavenger. In turn this enables you to be more selective about who is eligible to take your 'waste' and gives you access to a greater range of items being given away by others in the network's Inventory.

Example 1 - it is possible to offer your item to only the best Scavenger members, who are deemed to be fast, efficient and ultimately will not let you down.

Example 2 - if you have a Scavenger Score of 16 points you will only have access to items within the Inventory that are on offer to members with 16 points or less. To take an item on offer to those with 17 points you will need to continue to contribute to the network to build up more trust from your fellow members (points).

The feedback system also allows members who are being unreliable, such as ignoring emails or failing to pick up an item, to be fairly reflected. Although we are not trying to encourage any negativity, we think you would agree that it is very frustrating to see that your item has been requested only to never hear a response again!

The network's self moderating feedback system has been designed so that it is very easy to increase your score, simply by being reliable. The following examples are all ways to being a top, trustworthy Scavenger!

Ways to increase your scavenging score

Join the website - Each member is given +10 points when they joini the Scavenger network.

Give away an item - Successfully giving away an item can result in gaining up to +9 points through receiving positive feedback.

Taking an item - Taking an item can also gain you +6 points through feedback - especially if it is smooth giving.

Recommend a friend - For every friend you recommend an additional +1 point is added to your score for helping to grow the network.

Scoring penalties

No show - Failing to make any contact or show up after requesting and then being given an item can lead to being awarded -10 points! This only happens when a member fails to make contact and causes a general nuisance. Genuine mistakes would not lead to such a reduction.

It is also possible to receive a negative score when taking or giving an item. However this would only happen in a case where you cause inconvenience to the other Scavenger.
